Discover and Learn Academy in Heatherbrae is a family-owned, purpose-built Centre that focuses on nurturing your children through their early years. We are a play-based centre that focuses on developing each child’s self-discovery, social awareness, and interest in learning. We do this by drawing elements from our philosophy, creating a vibrant and stimulating environment.
The moment your child commences their journey with us, we begin equipping them with fundamental skill for their future. Whether it be through individualised routines or letter recognition we support every child to exceed their milestones, preparing them for their transition to school.
At Discover and Learn Academy – Heatherbrae, we offer extended hours of care and cater for children 0 – 6 years. We also offer before and after-school care as well as vacation care for primary school children up to 12 years of age.
We are a fully catered service providing breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack. Meals are provided by Kids Gourmet Food, which deliver fresh, nutritional, and inclusive meals daily.
The Heatherbrae centre operates from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, to cater for the needs of all parents and carers. From the minute you visit our centre you will be welcomed and feel a sense of confidence. Our service has an open-door policy, which means that you and your family are welcome to visit the service at any time.
Each child is a unique individual and as an early childhood educator, I have spent my carer striving to foster this belief encouraging excitement and exploration for the children in my care. I believe providing the best childcare experience starts with a partnership with families.
It is important to me that my team and I provide a variety of planned, spontaneous, and structured activities, focused on current interests, strengths, and developmental milestones, while also ensuring the opportunity for free play and child lead learning. I believe children are individual and activate learners, working alongside my peers, children and their families to ensure the best for everyone.
At each developmental milestone children are learning the skills they need for life and as an educator it is my belief that I am here to help guide them on their journey. I endeavour to foster strong relationships with the families of the children in my care to ensure that I am meeting their expectations for their child’s growth and development. As an educator, I am passionate about continuing to learn and develop and as such I am constantly furthering my skills and knowledge through experiences and study.
I believe that all children are all individuals. Each have their own personality that grows from their home life and experiences. I endeavour to support each and every one of them to achieve their goals and meet their challenges in life with positivity and resilience. I believe the care and respect that we give a child in the environment of childcare is an extremely important one and that it should reflect the wants and needs of their families.

Experiences within early childhood lay the foundation for future educational achievements. Creating enriched learning experiences is vital to maximise a child’s potential. As an early childhood teacher, I believe that it’s my role to provide quality learning and developmentally appropriate experiences where children become successful, build confidence, allow for creativity and children are active participants in their learning. To achieve quality teaching in early childhood education, I believe that opportunities for play-based learning are essential as it allows children to make sense of the world. This occurs through children engaging, processing, exploring, discovering, investigating, and experimenting in learning and within the environment.
As an Early childhood teacher, it’s my role to look at children holistically and be responsive to their needs and interests. Providing opportunities for families and community involvement will enable children to feel connected, secure, build confidence and a sense of identity.
